Because, since that is their national sport, the Mohawks, and it has been for hundreds of years, they should've focused on that and made a REALLY big deal out of it. They can get egotistical. I had more fun in that one month than I did in principal photography! MP: It seems sort of a bad time for a love scene anyway at that stage of the filming. I: Have you seen the whole film unedited? All I expect from anybodyand this is what I like about Blackstoneis that people on the show can do their job. E: Yes, with the Indians. Even so, it seems to us, one simply must dispute much of what he says. MP: We've heard about those. Can you turn it into a greater good by reaching out to those kids? One of our problems is finding a voice and speaking up, speaking out really loud too, if you want to. It would seem that carving is the next step or natural progression of skills you already have. It was shot in Vancouver and I talked to Wes after he finished it. ES: I liked killing all those guys on the side of the cliff. I haven't met them yet, but I'm going to sit down and try to talk to them and try to get them out of their shells somehow. MP: Why did you specifically choose the Inuit Spirit masks as the subject of your carvings? Being brothers, we would be the same. Over near Lake James. But we are running out of actors and we need new blood. want them to live like I lived from. you know. when I was drunk for 10 years.. Because it's ugly and it's not us. I don't mind period pieces as long as it's something positive and not negative. I was homeless when I was a kid. have anything to do with carving. They would have liked to have seen that scene kept in or at least the relationship more developed, alongside Hawkeye and Cora's. The Cliff Trails. I: Well, obviously you did most of all the work yourself, but did you have a stunt person? They don't have anybody to talk to and nobody to listen to them. E: Yes, but I got restless. As the film nears the end, the group progresses up a precarious waterfall, one of Hawkeye's friends, Uncas (Eric Schweig) is killed by the men tracking them, and he falls off the edge of the waterfall. That's what I love about it. I: Did you have to be really physically fit? MP: Cast as the Indian all the time, but you'd prefer to be offered a role because you're a good actor? If they were operable it would have been more fun. I didn't know the Russians, the Europeans, came from the west coast. He is of mixed race ( Inuvialuk, Chippewa - Dene and German). It was like puppy love basically, this love scene they cut out. Does he realize war and violence do really take place, even though we are "not born to hate each other"? MP: Where as a well made period piece, showing history as realistically as can be, is good. MP: Okay, many people are sincerely anxious to see you in more films. MP: That's about a hundred years or so. All they want to do is restrict native roles to native people. So what was it like to work with Michael Mann? I: When you go down to L. A., do you mix in with the other actors or stay to yourself? MP: Though we feel The Last of the Mohicans is your best film, certainly the most popular MP: I sense a certain dissatisfaction within you regarding that film. I've never been, well.. they treated me like royalty. I really like it and I love shopping there. MP: Do you remember what scene you were filming? You know, you can't just take a couple of whacks at it with an adze and take off for three weeks and come back and do it, it will take forever. That's what I like to see. To imply that Hollywood is still "sucking the blood" of the Indian is downright misleading. MP: The photo of the mask you described. on the cover of the book, is that 18th century or 19th century? I don't get it because those are our babies. I said "You know what? It was huge.
